Repair Projects

Down Hall, Preston St. Mary

This raised-aisled hall from the end of the 14th century had lost a lot of its original fabric about 20 years ago; our task was to study the carpentry of the frame and to reinstate some of the missing components. Firstly we reinstated the missing arcade braces and one arcade plate. Then we repaired the remaining half of one of the ogee service doorways and replicated its missing partner. Finally we reinstated the large mullioned window to the rear of what would have been the high-end of the hall. We also repaired rafters and sole plates as required and inserted a new oak floor frame to an existing 1980's blockwork extension.
